About Paulina
Hi, I’m Paulina Patricia Chavez Medina, LMFT. I’m a Latina, 1.5-generation immigrant, mom, therapist, and youth sports coach. Outside of the therapy room, you can usually find me at some kind of sporting event, doing something creative, building Legos, or juggling the million little things that come with being a human who wears a lot of hats.
My lived experiences as a young mom, immigrant, Spanish speaker, former military spouse, first-generation college student, and millennial deeply shape how I show up as a therapist. I understand what it can feel like to hold multiple identities, expectations, and responsibilities while trying to figure out where you fit into all of it.
That perspective is especially important in my work with women, parents, Latinas and BIPOC individuals navigating trauma, perinatal mental health, neurodivergence, identity, and major life transitions.
My goal isn't to tell you who you should become. It's to create a space where we can get curious about who you already are, what you've had to do to survive, and what you might not need to carry anymore.
Sobre Mí
Hola, soy Paulina Patricia Chavez Medina, LMFT.
"The greatest gift you can give yourself is the courage to take the next step, even if it's unsure. You have everything you need within you."
– Brené Brown
Clinical Focus
My work is trauma-informed, culturally responsive, neurodiversity-affirming, and rooted in a social justice framework.
I have a particular passion for perinatal mental health, including pregnancy, postpartum depression and postpartum anxiety, birth trauma, pregnancy and infant loss, identity changes, and the transition into parenthood. My own experience with postpartum depression and anxiety initially drew me toward this work, and I have continued developing this specialty through formal perinatal mental health training, pregnancy and infant loss training, and ongoing clinical consultation.
Becoming a parent can bring up some shit nobody warned you about. Sometimes it's about the baby. Sometimes it's about your relationship, your body, your family, your culture, your own childhood, or suddenly realizing you have no idea who you are outside of taking care of everyone else. Therapy can be a place where all of those things are allowed to exist at the same time.
I also approach therapy through a neurodiversity-affirming lens. I work with clients exploring how differences in attention, sensory needs, executive functioning, emotional regulation, communication, masking, and burnout have shaped their experiences.
Rather than beginning with “What's wrong with me?” I often encourage us to ask, “What does my brain need, and what have I been expecting from myself that may not actually work for me?”
This can be especially meaningful for women who have spent years masking, over-functioning, people-pleasing, or believing they were simply too sensitive, too emotional, too disorganized, or somehow not trying hard enough.
And because trauma, culture, neurodivergence, parenthood, and identity don't exist in separate little boxes, we don't treat them that way in therapy either.
How I Can Support You
What therapy with me looks like
I integrate evidence-based approaches including EMDR, the Trauma Resiliency Model (TRM), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy. When aligned with your beliefs and values, I also honor ancestral and culturally rooted practices including curanderismo, energy work, and brujería.
Therapy with me is collaborative, curious, and human. There can be reflection and vulnerability, but there can also be humor, sarcasm, cussing, and the occasional “wait…holy shit, that actually makes a lot of sense.”
You don't have to figure everything out at once.
We can find one string you're ready to pull and start there.
